A historical overview of the college
The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences is one of the colleges of the University of Misan. It was established in 2004/2005 and comprises two branches (theoretical sciences branch and the applied sciences branch). The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Misan is one of the colleges that, despite its modernity, its beginnings and steps, along with its successive, rapid and precise steps, are profoundly indicative of its ability to overcome the difficulties of establishment and foundation. Anyone who follows the achievements of this college, despite its modernity, wants to stand tall and stand out from the crowd in a style unmatched by its counterparts in other colleges. It is a higher academic institution that awards bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in one of the specializations of physical education and sports sciences. It aims to qualify students to become physical education teachers, sports trainers, injury and rehabilitation specialists, sports nutritionists, sports administrators, or sports psychologists in the future. The curricula in these colleges include subjects such as movement sciences, sports physiology, posture, biomechanics, sports training, injury rehabilitation, and physical capacity development. It is worth noting that most sports are taught at the college, both theoretically and practically, in terms of performance methods and the rules specific to each sport, in addition to the motor skills of each sport. The College of Physical Education was established at the beginning of the 2004-2005 academic year. It is one of the colleges specializing in physical education. It was established as a scientific, athletic, and academic institution to enhance the college’s role and embody the University of Maysan’s role in society. The college, which was previously a physical education department, became affiliated with the College of Basic Education, thus confirming the academic and scientific development witnessed by the University of Misan. Many graduates from the college have obtained bachelor’s degrees in physical education and sports science, contributing to the advancement of school sports and the sports movement in Maysan Governorate in particular. Today, the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences has established the correct foundations for building the sports needed by society in Maysan Governorate after years of haphazard and scattered efforts. Sports have become a major artery in all economic, social, and cultural fields, and the wealth and human resources working in this field are evidence that it is the second most promising economy. Since its inception, our college has worked to attract elite athletes from within and outside the governorate, giving students the fruits of their efforts in sports achievement and sports sciences, enabling them to obtain bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The college has undertaken a number of activities and events, including holding scientific conferences, seminars, and discussion panels. It has also held several meetings with stakeholders in physical education. It has also contributed to giving lectures and holding scientific, developmental, and training courses for those involved in sports and youth affairs, particularly seminars and courses for physical education teachers, as well as administrative staff, including representatives from the Olympic Committee and the Governorate’s Youth and Sports Directorate. This reflects the college’s and university’s role in society and its institutions concerned with sports and youth affairs.
