About the College
Year of Establishment: The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences is one of the faculties of the University of Maysan. It was established in the 2005/2006 academic year and comprises two departments: the Department of Theoretical Sciences and the Department of Applied Sciences.
Although the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Maysan is relatively young, its inception—followed by a series of rapid, well-executed developmental steps—demonstrates a remarkable capacity to overcome the challenges inherent in establishing a new institution. Despite its recent origins, the College stands tall, distinguishing itself from its peers through a unique identity and approach.
The College has successfully laid a solid foundation for the development of sports—a vital need for the community in Maysan Governorate—replacing what were previously disorganized and fragmented efforts. In today’s world, sports have become a key artery across economic, social, and cultural spheres; the significant financial investment and human capital dedicated to this sector underscore its potential as a promising “second economy.” Since its inception, the College has focused on attracting elite sports professionals from both within and outside the governorate. These experts have shared their extensive knowledge and achievements in sports science and athletic performance with students, who can now pursue both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the College. Academic Degrees Awarded by the College: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and Master’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Sciences.
College Address: Iraq – Maysan – Al-Kahla Road – Near the Technical Institute.
